Who is this qualification for?


Entertainment and event venues are great places to work. They play a key role in bringing people and communities together, providing fun and enteratinment to people of all ages and backgrounds, and improving their cultural, physical and social well-being.

 

This foundation qualification is for those working in the events and venues industry on a full-time, part-time or casual basis — front-of-house roles such as ushers, ticketing, customer service, and also back-of-house operations, stage management and technical roles.

 

It will help to develop their career in this very exciting and rewarding sector and give formal recognition for the foundation skills and knowledge expected of them.

This qualification takes 3-7 months to complete.

What’s involved?


This programme covers health and safety practices, customer service, professional behaviour, and key skills and standards expected from people working in entertainment and event venues.

It focuses on:

  • The values and goals of their workplace, and how they can play an important role in living out these values in their daily work
  • Venue health and safety procedures and responsibilities, including what to do in emergencies and how to deal with hazards
  • Providing exceptional customer service to every person they deal with
  • Contributing within a team
  • Self-management
  • Understanding how entertainment and events benefit the community.

This qualification provides a foundation of skills which lead into technical/job-specific training and qualifications, including:

  • Front-of-house, including reception, hospitality, ticketing and security
  • Back-of-house, including working with event technical systems, safe manual lifting, stage management
  • Event co-ordinating and management
  • Team supervision
  • Venue management.

This cost includes learning and assessment resources, registration of achievement on the NZQA Framework and Skills Active Learning Support Advisor contact visits to support trainees.

There may be additional costs if external training and assessment is required.
