INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS - GATEWAY

Skills Active has developed a number of programmes to assist schools to provide students learning and assessment opportunities in the workplace, through the Gateway programme.

What Programmes are available?

Skills Active is offering the following programmes for schools:

  • Fitness Facility Health and Safety
  • Exercise Techniques
  • Health Risks and Exercise Stress
  • Anatomy of movement and stretching
  • Principles of Nutrition
Recreation
  •  Recreation Activities

Skills Active does not currently provide programmes for Outdoor Recreation, Sport, Aquatics or Snowsport. Sport and Outdoor Recreation programmes may be available in 2011.

What are the criteria to offer a Skills Active Gateway Programme?

Skills Active requires that the school be accredited for the units in the Gateway programmes they are offering.  If you would like to find out more information about Skills Active accreditation and to apply please click here

If the school is working towards being accredited, there are two interim options available:

  1. The school has a MOU arrangement with an accredited provider to assess and report the achieved credits. 
  2. The school uses a Skills Active Registered Assessor to assess and report the achieved credits through Skills Active.  Contact your local Relationship Manager for more information about Registered Assessor’s in your area.

Skills Active no longer enters into MOU’s with schools or allows the reporting of achieved credit to NZQA using our provider code.

What is the cost?

If the school is accredited (or has an MOU with an accredited provider), the cost for each student is $60 (including GST). This cost includes the applicable Gateway resources.

If the school is not accredited and is using a Skills Active Registered Assessor, the cost for each student is $80 (including GST).  This cost includes the applicable Gateway resources and the reporting of achieved credits to NZQA.

What is the enrolment process?

A Gateway Enrolment form must be completed for each student undertaking the Gateway programme.  Send the completed forms to Skills Active, PO Box 2183, Wellington.  Once processed, Skills Active will dispatch the learning and assessment resources within five working days.
