OFFICIATING

In December an Advisory Group was brought together to review the National Certificate in Umpiring and Officiating Level 3 along with 6 unit standards which had been put on the framework in 2006 but were not part of any qualification. Whilst the 6 units came out virtually unscathed there was a general consensus that the qualification in its current format would not meet the needs of the industry.

As with the coaching unit review, the intention is to align the units with the SPARC ‘Calling the Game’ framework which has 12 learning areas. The next step in the process is to contract a writer to review the existing units and create new ones to fill the gaps highlighted by the SPARC framework. It is expected that these units will be created in the next couple of months and a consultation process undertaken as per the coaching one, with the intent to submit the units and revised qualification by the middle of the year at the latest.
