Duration and Cost 

The Sport and Recreation Co-ordinators Professional Development Programme is the first programme to be specifically developed to meet the needs of Sport and Recreation Co-ordinator’s.

It is a self paced learning programme that has been tailored to complement and enhance the work that you do in your schools.

The six modules that have been created are listed below:

MODULE

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN

Volunteer Management

 

• Helping you recruit, retian and manage all those volunteers you work with

Sports Events

• Delivering high quality events & competitions
• Dealing with the media

Team Management • Managing Sports Programmes and individual teams as a Coach or Team Manager, including working with parents.

Sports Participation

 • Health and Safety for Sports programmes
• Injury prevention and management
• Understanding student motivations for 
  participation

Sport Administration

 

• Writing Business Reports and letters etc
• Getting more out of meetings
• Working with databases
• Health and Safety in the workplace

 Sport in New Zealand

(coming mid 2009)

• Knowing where you fit in the industry and where to look for help in your local region and nationally

What Do I Get? 

Sport and Recreation Co-ordinators completing the programme will receive a Skills Active Award in Sport and Recreation Co-ordination

Duration and Cost 

The length of the programme is 17 months and is $125.00 + GST.

This is an ideal way for your school to utilise the Professional Development Funding provided by SPARC for your role

New Zealand Secondary Schools Sports Council [NZSSSC] is proud to be associated with, to endorse and to recommend to you these training modules for School Sport and Recreation Co-ordinator’s that have been developed by Skills Active.  We believe they offer a high quality, accessible training resource that will be eagerly approached by School Sport and Recreation Co-ordinator’s who seek to increase job satisfaction through up-skilling and by those who are looking to increase their qualifications in the sports service sector. 

NZSSSC has had a positive working relationship with Skills Active since 2005 when the project was first discussed.  We have assisted in the development of the first modules, in the consultation with principals and School Sport and Recreation Co-ordinator’s to assess the need and the interest, in the assessment of modules completed by the first trainees, in the revision of the original resources and in the production of the enhanced training resources that follow.

NZSSSC is convinced that these excellent resources will make a major contribution to the achievement of one of its strategic objectives as described in its Strategic Plan 2006 -2009.  We thank Skills Active for its on-going support for School Sport and Recreation Co-ordinator’s and we are confident that the huge effort that they have made will be amply rewarded when they see the enthusiastic uptake by those wonderful people who are working so hard to provide a quality sports experience for young people in schools.
