Growing Rec Leaders

What is it?

Rec Leader introduces students to the recreation industry through researching, planning and running a recreation activity.

This award is perfect for students involved in organising recreation activities, such as:

A sports activity or coaching session
Stage challenge, dance or school production
Tabloid sports or house activity
Lunchtime, holiday programme or afterschool extracurricular activities.

There are two modules in this youth award. Rec Researcher module (7 credits at level 3), and Activity Leader module (4 credits at level 3). Students need to achieve both modules to gain the Rec Leader Youth Award.

The Rec Leader package consists of two modules; each has a Student Assessment Workbook and a Teacher Assessment Guide.

What will students learn?

Students who complete this programme will be able to:

Describe what recreation is
Research and identify the recreation needs of target groups
Identify the benefits and barriers to recreation
Provide strategies to overcome barriers
Plan, run and evaluate a recreation activity.
