This apprenticeship suits lifeguards who want advanced knowledge and experience in leading lifeguard shifts and teams in aquatic facility environments.
Lifeguards are observant, patient, and great with people. They have the skills and confidence to act in a quick, responsible and calm manner. A senior lifeguard has all of these characteristics, along with strong leadership and communication skills.
This apprenticeship will be delivered on-the-job at the pool, and assessments will be completed online.
Coming out of this qualification, a senior pool lifeguard will have in-depth lifeguarding skills, and be armed with the knowledge required to supervise, coordinate and educate pool staff.
Coordinating pool lifeguard plans and adapting shifts
Applying advanced lifeguarding skills and aquatic supervision and rescue techniques
Supervising health and safety procedures, risk assessment plans and pool water quality checks
Responding to customer needs in an aquatic facility.
The programme is made up of the following unit standards:

On-job training costs workplaces both time and resources. It can mean covering registration fees, learning and assessment resources, allocating time for training, and having an appropriate assessment pathway available.
Total costs for apprentices will vary depending on how the qualification is delivered, how it is assessed and how much support the workplace can provide.
Skills Active apprenticeships are zero-fees until the end of 2022, under the government's Targeted Training Fund.
