Who is this qualification for?   

This qualification is for people who manage the overall operation of a sport, recreation, exercise, event or outdoor recreation facility

Facility managers are big picture people who juggle a wide range of responsibilities in order to keep operations running smoothly. Strategic players with sharp critical thinking and planning abilities, they apply specific knowledge and skills to lead teams, promote inclusion, make sound decisions, and contribute to the achievement of facility goals.

This qualification will be delivered and assessed on-the-job in a workplace within the sport and recreation industry.

Up-and-coming facility managers will come out of this qualification ready to plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of a facility including its operation, maintenance and long-term viability.

This 120-credit diploma covers the following areas:

Applying management skills and practices to all aspects of a facility and its operation

Contributing to strategic business plans to achieve facility goals

Managing health and safety to ensure compliance with legislation as well as organisational policy

Providing leadership and human resource management to promote teamwork and wellbeing, in an inclusive environment

Adapting facility operations in response to research and strategic directions 

Preparing budgets and financial reports using data and quality measures to forecast and report on procurement and replacement.

This qualification is designed to take 2-3 years to complete.

On-job training costs workplaces both time and resources. It can mean covering registration fees, learning and assessment resources, allocating time for training, and having an appropriate assessment pathway available.  

Total costs for trainees will vary depending on how the qualification is delivered, how it is assessed and how much support the workplace can provide.
