Who is this apprenticeship for?   

This apprenticeship is for people who contribute to the smooth operation of active recreation facilities, places and spaces.

Facility staff care for, maintain and operate sport and recreation spaces so that people from all walks of life can come along and get involved.

Responsible, efficient and friendly by nature, they understand the benefits of physical activity for wellbeing, and are passionate about welcoming their community to the facility, and making sure everyone gets the most out of their time there.

This qualification will be delivered and assessed on-the-job in a workplace within the sport and recreation industry.

Graduates of this qualification will be ready to operate, monitor and maintain facilities that are fit-for-purpose, and achieve a range of sport, recreation and social goals

What's involved?

This 120-credit apprenticeship covers the following areas:

Monitoring, operating and maintaining facility, equipment, resources and spaces to meet operational requirements, plans and processes

Monitoring facility to effectively manage hazards and risk, and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation

Responding to the diverse needs of different groups, to break down barriers to using a facility or active recreation space

Delegating tasks in an ethical and professional manner

Taking responsibility for skill currency, by keeping up awareness of emerging technologies and trends, and taking part in ongoing professional development.

This programme will take 2-3 years to complete.

What are the costs?   

On-job training costs workplaces both time and resources. It can mean covering registration fees, learning and assessment resources, allocating time for training, and having an appropriate assessment pathway available.  

Total costs for apprentices will vary depending on how the qualification is delivered, how it is assessed and how much support the workplace can provide.

Some of our apprenticeships may be eligible for the Government’s fees free policy, or may be eligible for a Skills Active subsidy of up to $1,000.
