Who is this qualification for?   

This qualification is for people with health and safety responsibilities in sport and recreation workplaces.

Calm and conscientious by nature, health and safety staff care about people. They help to make sure everyone goes home safe each day, by applying their industry-specific skills and knowledge to promote and contribute to health and safety in their organisation - benefiting the business, the employees, and their whānau.

This qualification will be delivered and assessed on-the-job in a workplace within the sport and recreation industry.

Through completing this qualification, health and safety staff will develop the skills to implement organisational and job-specific health and safety requirements and practices, and use health and safety risk analyses and mitigation strategies.

This 60-credit qualification covers the following areas:

Implementing, supervising, monitoring, and communicating organisational and job-specific health and safety requirements and practices, for a team in the workplace

Using leadership skills to promote the benefits of good workplace health and safety practices and a proactive health and safety culture within a team

Knowledge of health and safety risk analyses and mitigation strategies for a team in the workplace

Recognising the impact of work-related ill health and injuries on a specific business operation and the wider industry.

This qualification takes 8-12 months to complete.

What are the costs?   

On-job training costs workplaces both time and resources. It can mean covering registration fees, learning and assessment resources, allocating time for training, and having an appropriate assessment pathway available.  

Total costs for trainees will vary depending on how the qualification is delivered, how it is assessed and how much support the workplace can provide.
