Who is this qualification for?   

This qualification is for people who work as either snowsport equipment technicians or bootfitters in the snowsport industry.

Ill-fitted ski boots or faulty equipment can bring a real down-buzz to someone's skiing or snowboarding experience. Workshop technicians and bootfitters are crucial for ensuring customers have a safe and exhilarating time on the slopes.

This qualification will be delivered and assessed on-the-job in a workplace in the snowsport industry.

Graduates of the Workshop Technician strand will be able to provide specialist repair and maintenance services for skis and snowboards.

Graduates of the Bootfitting strand will be able to select, fit, and adapt boots for skiers and snowboarders.

What's involved?

This 60-credit qualification has core modules and two strands:

The core modules cover:

Maintaining a range of snowsport equipment by applying specialist technical knowledge

Operating and maintaining specialist snowsport tools and machinery in a snowsport workshop

Health and safety.

The Workshop Technician strand covers:

Complex tuning, repairs and maintenance of high performance and expert level snowsport equipment

Advanced knowledge of workshop tools and equipment

Complex binding placements and mounting techniques on a range of snowsport equipment.

The Bootfitting strand covers:

Detailed foot analysis to advise customers on appropriate boot options for the snowsport activity being undertaken

Complex shell analysis and boot customisation to fit customers' boots.

This qualification is designed to be completed in 10 months. 

What are the costs?

On-job training costs workplaces both time and resources. It can mean covering registration fees, learning and assessment resources, allocating time for training, and having an appropriate assessment pathway available.  

Total costs for trainees will vary depending on how the qualification is delivered, how it is assessed and how much support the workplace can provide.
