Apprentice of the Year Award

Skills Active each year recognises a recently-graduated apprentice who reflects the qualities that our industries value.

Award criteria

This award goes to a high-potential trainee who has gained skills and qualifications that will help them improve the wellbeing of New Zealanders, through the medium of sport, recreation or performing arts.

The award is open to all Skills Active apprentices who have completed their apprenticeship in the 12 months to 30 June.

The Skills Active judges are looking for individuals who have chosen to build long-term careers in our industries, and who exemplify the qualities of hard work, commitment, passion for their chosen discipline, support and encouragement for participants, and the promotion of sport, recreation or performing arts in New Zealand.

The Apprentice of the Year receives a $1000 cash prize, carving, and travel for two people to the awards ceremony.

If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please email us before 31 July.

Nominations should include a paragraph about the candidate and any relevant background, how they meet the eligibility criteria, and why they should be considered for the award.
