Meet our team: Caro Verhagen

In this series we are introducing you to some of the awesome people who have been working hard behind the scenes as we move towards launching our new, independent tertiary education organisation, Te Mahi Ako.

Caro Verhagen will be the manager of the Regional Learning Engagement team at Te Mahi Ako.

After doing her OE, Caro followed her passion and got qualified as an outdoor instructor and adult educator, where she was able to be part of people’s progression and growth, using the outdoors as a setting for learning.

Caro is still passionate – about caving, kayaking, walking, and working with people to increase educational opportunities. In her role at Te Mahi Ako she will be overseeing team of regional learning advisors around the motu.

“Although it’s the outdoor stuff that attracted me to Skills Active originally, I really love all of our industries. All our learners are doing that same sort of active learning, and it’s great to be involved in their journey.”

Caro’s mission in her work at Te Mahi Ako will be to support workplaces and organisations to get their learners qualified.

“We’ll do that any way we can, through guiding and consulting workplaces, and keeping learners on track – providing the support they need, and also being a voice for them within Skills Active.”
